Description:
“Italian Pattern”, medium blue and white transfer print, dished indented plate with an Italian scene with classical ruins, a river, figures and domestic animals, framed by a white dentil band beyond which a stippled area extends, overlapping the border pattern of flowers and scrolls. No foot rim on plates. Pale blue rippled glaze. There was produced a series of four Italian patterns based on views taken from Merigot’s “Views of Rome and its Vicinity” published in 1797-98. this pattern is discussed and pictured in "Blue & White Transfer Ware 1780-1840" by A. W. Coysh, Second Ed, 1974, David & Charles, Publishers, London.

Condition:
Fine condition. Single point stilt marks rear and front (well hidden). Most minor amount of utensil marking in the wells of the plates, minor wear on the flat underside.
