Description: |
“Italian Pattern”, medium blue and white transfer print, dished indented plate with an Italian scene with classical ruins, a river, figures and domestic animals, framed by a white dentil band beyond which a stippled area extends, overlapping the border pattern of flowers and scrolls. No foot rim on plates. Pale blue rippled glaze. There was produced a series of four Italian patterns based on views taken from Merigot’s “Views of Rome and its Vicinity” published in 1797-98. this pattern is discussed and pictured in "Blue & White Transfer Ware 1780-1840" by A. W. Coysh, Second Ed, 1974, David & Charles, Publishers, London. | (click on image for photos) |

Condition: |
Fine condition. Single point stilt marks rear and front (well hidden). Most minor amount of utensil marking in the wells of the plates, minor wear on the flat underside. Minor glaze skips on the under rim side of some. One with crazing on the back and a glaze void under the rim (1/4" x 3/4") | ||||
