Description:	Godefroy Catalogue #45. Fourth State of six. The last state of Ostade's lifetime impressions. Monogram “AO” etched on the top of the barrel at lower left. On the back side there are several pencil notations and an unidentified collector or inventory stamp.			(click on image for photos)
Other Notes:	After the 3rd state, the lap of the peasant seated at the right in front of the door of his house is shaded with crosshatching, oblique from left to right. The ground, from his feet to the barrel is shaded with strong crosshatching, oblique from left to right. the hat of the drinking man standing and holding a glass has only vertical crosshatching. Godefroy pictures the 2nd and the 4th state and in the original French edition, shows a detail of the hat changes in state 5.
Condition:	Edges backed with laid paper to the border line. Mild toning consistent with age. There is either the residue of an old hinge at top center edge on the rear or it is the expert repair to a paper abrasion. Not visible on front. Several creases: One an unobtrusive diagonal soft crease across the lower right corner just reaching to the border line; a soft crease across the same corner but 1” into the image area; finally a long diagonal crease through the sky across the upper right corner, not obtrusive. A brown spot visible on the barrel in lower left corner. Otherwise in very good condition. Partial very indistinct watermark under the stool and extending into the heavily etched area. Mounted with tape hinges on the back upper corners to new 100% rag mats.
