This work is from the time period of 1647 - 1651 during a period of interest in the effects of nocturnal illumination, inspired by the works of Rembrandt. A drawing in the Cooper Union Museum is probably a prep work for this etching. Castiglione's subject was used in a painting by Antonio Travi (1613-1668). | ||||
Condition: |
Very good condition. Thread margins, expert restoration around the sheet edges, filling and backing scattered thin spots, holes and losses. Most obtrusive at lower left corner where there was larger area of loss. Light age tone. Moderate soil on reverse. Matted in good mats, corner spot mounts. | ||||
