Other Notes: |
We see Mt. Aso erupting in the background. Aso-jinja is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan, believed to be built in 281. Over many centuries the shrine has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in or near the crater of Mt. Aso. The caldera of Mt. Aso is known as the largest in the world in which people are living. The shrine’s deity is Tateiwatatsu-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Japan’s first emperor, Jimmu. | ||||
