The Kiso Kaido series of Nishijima is an attempt to recreate a modern version of that done by Hiroshige and Yeisen. The Kisokaido, or "mountain road" was an alternate route between Yedo and Kyoto. As Nishijima does not include people in his designs, there are major differences between his view of the "station" and the originals. Likewise, the landscape itself has changed. Neverless, here we see a street in the town with shops on the right and a slight view of the mountains behind. In Hiroshige's view there was a wider view of the street, more mountains and a group of coolies with horses. In the original series, this station was #63 and depending on the translation source, variously called "Banba" or "Bamba". Nishijima uses "Banda". | ||||
