Description:
From the “First Series of Modern Beauties” (Gendai bijinshu dai-isshu - Kuchibeni) published by the Watanabe Shozaburo. Number 247 of an edition of 250. Brush signature and red seal in upper right. Also in the upper right is the date of Showa 4 years, five months. The early Watanabe publisher’s 6 mm round seal in the lower right of the image (this seal is typically found on these early Shinsui prints). Red limitation seal on the reverse listing the print as #247 of 250, with a small red publisher’s seal below it.

Condition:
Very good condition. Soft warm toning on the front margins. Silver mica highlights on the mirror glass, embossing on the carnations on the gray in the kimono, which flowers are in red, purple, white and green; the kimono with a blue water and wave pattern encircling; with the faint blush on her cheeks and fingers still showing nicely. The background of a light bluish-gray with baren circles showing. Wonderful image. A small pencil notation on the reverse bottom margin edge.
