Brush “Shunsen ga” signature and red “Shunsen” seal at center left in image. “Watanabe ko” black seal at lower right in the image and the red oval “natori” seal at lower left edge. References: This image referenced in Kendall Brown “New Prints in Modern Japan” as figure 62, and as Catalogue #14. Shunsen plate #43. Blair Catalogue #157 (Toledo 1930 Catalogue). This series was originally started by the publisher Kikuchi Yoshimaru but he turned publication over to Watanabe after the first print. Each print, edition of 150, was sold by subscription, one per month initially, less regular after 1929, with the final print delivered in 1931. | ||||

Very good condition. Warm toning to the paper, visible more so on the bottom and right margins. Embossing on the cock feathers, the sword handles, sandal ties and a few other spots. Not matted or mounted. | ||||
