Description: |
This is one of the 14 prints completed during Goyo’s lifetime. Brush signature “Goyo Ga” with red seal. Title and date of “Taisho ku nen ichi gatsu” (Taisho 9 years 1 month), all in lower right corner of the image. Crisp impression with very good “bokashi” shading in the sky, river and hills of Higashi mountain. | (click on image for photos) |

This bridge over the Kamo River was the last print in Hiroshige’s “tokaido gojusan tsugi”. Kendall Brown reports in his book “Shin-Hanga” that Goyo is somewhat honoring Hiroshige with this print as he used the same scene, only reversed, looking east instead of looking west. | ||||
Condition: |
Very good condition other than: Faint glue stains on reverse top corners with slight bleed through to the front; two small brown spots on reverse with one showing on the front in the water near the right most set of bridge piers. | ||||
