Other Notes:
Image design from the Qing Dynasty. This stately Sky Stove God and his wife are notable for their directness and simplicity. The print shows only the two deities, two men with their horses and a basin of jewels. The Stove God was undoubtedly the most important of the popular deities. He was responsible for an annual report of family affairs to heaven. These images were burned each year in a ritual to send them to heaven to make their report. Thus they were replaced every year. The Stove God prints were kept in strong green, red and yellow colors. This makes them very vivid and effective.
