Other Notes: |
As with many Staffordshire potteries there can be a long history of ownership changes, and therefore name changes, of the facilities. The pottery was located at Broad St., Shelton, in Hanley, in the Staffordshire Potteries District. The factory was always at that location. "Hicks, Meigh & Johnson" operated the facility in 1822-1835 and prior to that it was Hicks & Meigh, 1806 - 1822; and prior to that it was "John & Edward Baddeley" 1784 to 1806, and that is the original firm. After Hicks, Meigh & Johnson, it was Ridgway, Morley Wear & Co. from 1836 - 1842; and then it was "Ridgway & Morley" from 1842-44; then it became F. Morley & Co. Under this name they operated from 1845 to 1858. After 1858 the firm was known as "Morley & Ashworth" from 1859 to 1862, and then it became "G.L. Ashworth & Bros.". Ashworth was still in business in 1970 | ||||
