Description: |
Jasperware: Ovoid form from the first period of Adams Jasperware. The white relief decoration being on a blue dip jasper ground, included on one side the "Sacrifice to Ceres" with a priestess trumpeting the news of an abundant harvest. On the opposite side the "Sacrifice to Plenty". Feathery leaves around the base, pendant flower stems with buds around the rim and laurel wreath on the handle. | (click on image for photos) |

This exact form appears in several books on old Adams jasperware including an example in Godden of the exact reliefs. ("An Illustrated Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain"). Fine condition except that the inner tab of applied handled separated from body during firing and a small vertical firing separation on the thin white band below the goddess reliefs (see detail photo). | ||||
