Other Notes:
The “L” in the mark refers to “Limited Liability Co” of which Old Hall was the first in the Potteries to use that business model when it became authorized by Parliment. The pheasant amid flowers motif was quite popular in early english ironstone, especially at Masons where pieces were produced in plain blue pheasants such as this one and in colored pheasants. Several other makers in this same time frame produced similar works with slightly different names. The Old Hall firm was incorporated sometime around 1851. It was an offshoot of the Charles Meigh firm and Charles Meigh was a director of the new firm.
