Other Notes:
The images are lightly drawn but each segment of the composition has it’s own little scene of action from the actual weighting of the birds for the cock fight to the casual conversations. Drawn from Hart’s numerous trips to Mexico in the 1920’s. This is one of 5 collotypes Hart experimented with in 1927. In “Fine Prints of the Year, 1928” is shown an aquatint of this same subject, but with the image flipped horizontally and some of the figures on the right side deleted. (ed. of 30). Collotypes involve the use of a gelatin-coated glass plate to fix the image and the gelatin process allows fine shades of gray.
Condition:
Fair to good condition. Hinged at top corners to new rag mats, paper with age toning, moderate light stain, pale 1” high stain in the left margin that goes 1/2” into the image (see detail photo). Several minor scuffs.
