Description:
A matched pair. Gale Catalogue #6437, original signed water color painting, captioned in pencil on the side of the sled: “One case / snow drift / ebony mugs / with care” and monogrammed with an interlocked “TW”; together with a copy of the C & I colored lithograph dated 1883, with legend on lower margin. Matching hardwood frames. Watercolor on watermarked paper “J. WHATMAN”. The watercolor signed in pencil ”Thos. Worth”. Litho marked “copyright 1883 by Currier and Ives, N.Y. 115 Nassau St. New York”

Other Notes:
A rarely matched pair of the original artists drawing with the finished lithograph by Currier and Ives. The pencil labeling on the side on the sled was not used in the finished lithograph.    
Condition:
The watercolor has tape residue of old mats in 4 corners, minor soiling, some pencil erasures in bottom sheet area, the lithograph has mat burn from old acid mat, print area toned lightly, tear off corner top left outside of print area, backside darkened from old cardboard backing, some tape residue on 1 edge; tear on right sheet margin up to but not into the image. Both images mounted in new 100% rag mats that fit the frames the works originally were obtained in.
