b. 1945, Yamaguchi prefecture. The standard biography is that he studied woodblock printmaking in Kyoto at the publisher Mikumo between 1964 and 1968. As a sosaku-hanga artist, he cuts and prints his own blocks and specializes in the depiction of traditional Japanese houses and buildings and scenes containing them, principally in the area of Kyoto. He has created a series of prints, one being "Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido" and another being "Kyoto Street Scenes". His prints do not contain human figures which results in prints that are as timeless as the subject matter. |
