SUYING, Liu b. 1957, Jiangsu Province

A Chinese printmaker influenced by the Chinese Suzhou Art School, Ms Suying's works in our inventory focus on scenic town views of Suzhou City, famous for its canals. She is a member of the Chinese Printmaker Association and the Artist Association of Jiangsu Province. Her woodblocks are printed on very pliable Chinese paper, which works very well with the water soluble inks she uses. All her works are signed, dated and numbered in editions of 100 or less.

She has exhibited since 1988 in China and has won several awards in juried exhibitions. Her first solo exhibition was in 1999 in Nanjing. She was the first woman printmaker to hold a solo in Nanjing. She received a bronze medal at the Exposition of Chinese Architectural Artworks in 2000. Three woodblocks from the "Gardens of Suzhou" series were shown at the 9th Suzhou Autumn Invitation Exhibition.
